Austin Azar

Screenwriter

Bio

Austin Azar is a screenwriter and film/TV professional with over eight years of experience in the entertainment industry. He has been writing in various forms since he can remember.

Austin grew up in a few spots across the southwestern US before settling (somewhat serendipitously) in Austin, TX. He then attended the University of Texas, graduating in 2021 with a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film and Minors in Creative Writing, Business, and Spanish. Following graduation, Austin moved out to Los Angeles, where he has been lucky to work for some great people, including Brian Edwards, President of TV Operations at MGM Studios; Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher, showrunners of the CW’s Superman & Lois; and writer/showrunner Jason Katims, for whom Austin works currently as his direct assistant. People had warned Austin that LA would be super expensive and all his bosses would be cruel. Thankfully, they’ve only been half right.

In his free time, Austin likes to be outdoors, socialize, and lose both money in poker and dignity in Catan. His other hobbies include going to the movies, playing music, cooking, and reading. And of course, he writes whenever he can.

As primarily a drama/dramedy writer, Austin’s work often explores macro themes of romance, family, friendship, and religion, to name a few. Genre-wise, he tends toward character-focused, grounded, human stories, such as coming-of-age narratives or romantic/family dramedies.
